Hanging a Lantern in the streets of China

Similar to the mirror, the lantern reveals new facts and information. The lantern seeks to uncover a flaw or expose a glitch. There is one major difference between the mirror and the lantern, however. The mirror is played by the opponent while the lantern is played by the player himself.

The Chinese police of Luoyang played a lantern on their city this past weekend, apologizing for their irresponsibility and promising to do better.

The police had just unearthed a sex dungeon in Luoyang after the death of two women. The women had been held hostage in underground rooms. They were forced into prostitution, raped and subjected to be pornographic models. The victims had been abducted almost two years ago, along with four other women.

The police official apologized for the lag time between the women’s abduction and the time it took them to find the sex lair, promising to be more effective in the future.

“I beg the people of Luoyang to give us another chance. We will show you the results of our actions.”

In this case, the Chinese police were playing the lantern. They admitted to the public that they were not performing their job (shining the light on their flaws) and promised to do better in the future.

The first step in playing an effective mirror is to highlight your weakness and be willing to take the blame. Make sure you disclose enough information so you don’t look like you’re hiding anything. Sometimes an over abundance of information will catch your opponent off guard and they will respond in chivalry rather than mockery.
